Dolphin Slaughter Protest Photos, Sept. 3, 2008
What follows is a report by Nancy Morris, who coordinated that (larger than ever) protest at the Japanese Embassy in Seattle Sept. 3.
You can hear her excellent interview on Seattle radio.

Under bright sunny skies over 40 plus citizens stood vigilantly on the street in front of the Japanese Consulate office in downtown Seattle, Washington. Many people, including kids, held signs, banners, and even the Earth Flag, with the messages: HELP SAVE THE WORLD'S BELOVED DOLPHINS; STOP THE DOLPHIN SLAUGHTER; JAPAN STOP TOXIC MERCURY EXPOSURE; STOP THE KILLING, SAVE THE OCEANS; The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged on the way its animals are treated -Gandhi; JAPAN LET THE DOLPHINS AND WHALES GO IN PEACE.
A megaphone was on hand for use to voice comments above the street noise about the brutal dolphin slaughter and the Japanese government still allowing their citizens to receive toxic mercury exposures. Other protesters handed out over 265 informational pamphlets to passersby on their lunch breaks. The pamphlets vividly depicted the horrific dolphin drive hunts, the fate of the dolphins, and the end result of toxic mercury exposure to an unknowing public from mercury contaminated dolphin meat in school lunch programs and in other consumer products. Two large banners, clearly stating why we were there with the www.SaveJapanDolphins.org website, were displayed near the street, allowing drivers in cars stopped for red lights to receive a quick education on the Japanese government's annual slaughter of over 22,000 intelligent, defenseless cetaceans. With continued efforts by all of us here in the USA and around the world, the slaughter will someday stop. Numerous citizens in Japan also hope for the end to this killing of the world's cetaceans.

The plight of the world's beloved dolphins...Please help!!
Hello everyone:
During the recent international protest,Japan Dolphin Day, on September 3rd, hundreds of people in dozens of cities around the world called for an end to the horrific dolphin drive hunts that occur off Japan's east coast from September to April each year. In this brutal hunt sanctioned by the Japanese government, Japanese fishermen kill over 22,000 dolphins and other small whales primarily as a form of pest control. Some dolphins are kept alive to be sold to aquariums in Japan and other countries.
Some meat from the slaughtered dolphins is used in school lunch programs in eastern coastal regions of Japan. Dolphin meat is contaminated with toxic levels of mercury. Last year two city councilmen in Taiji, Japan have broken the Japanese code of silence and labeled meat from dolphins "toxic waste" due to its high mercury content. They have demanded dolphin meat be withdrawn from the school lunch program. This is a huge step in generating local opposition to the dolphin hunt and is the result of citizen activism not only in Japan, but worldwide.
Please take just a moment to review the simple action suggested in this email. The dolphins and children of Japan need our help.
Thank you,
Nancy Morris

Activists in Japan believe only an international outcry will bring an end to the slaughter. They feel this is the best way to make their government stop the senseless killing of thousands of dolphins and small whales.
Since 2005, international protests have been held with numerous groups and thousands of people worldwide sending a message that we oppose the Japanese dolphin drive hunt. The drive hunts have already started for this year.
